It's always fun for me to reflect on my life on birthdays. As I'm sure it is with a lot of us, the older we get, the more we learn what's really important. I feel like every year I learn more about myself, too. Who I really am, what my purpose is, what I like and dislike. It's a privilege to have another year to ponder on these questions and get closer to finding the answers. A lot of these "truths" are the same as last year. Some, I've grown even stronger on and some, are new to me through this past year's experiences (lol @ #27 - learned the hard way).
I'm sure I could add 100+ items to this list, but I'm only 27 so, that'll just have to wait.
- Putting on sunscreen should be added to your morning routine.
- Life is full of distractions. Make sure you know what you're distracted by.
- Life goes unplanned 99% of the time. Learn to roll with the punches.
- Family is the most important thing in this life.
- Your worth is not measured by how you physically look.
- Being kind to others is in.
- Challenge your brain by learning something new every year.
- Find a hobby you enjoy, run with it & see where it takes you (it's baking for me).
- Call your parents and check-in with them.
- You need one nice pair of jeans.
- There's nothing like being aware of how you act then when you have a mini me watching and copying you.
- Take care of your mental health. In fact, prioritize it.
- Take care of your physical health. In fact, prioritize it, however that may look.
- Be patient with yourself. Give yourself grace when need be.
- Put your phone down and be present more often.
- Write down all of your thoughts/worries for the next day before bed and I promise your sleep will improve.
- 1 close friend is much better than 10 acquaintances.
- The importance of travel and the different perspective it provides you with.
- It's ok and actually healthy to say "no" to things.
- You should prioritize date nights.
- If you're religious, start your day with a scripture. It'll set your day up for success.
- Finding way to help others is always a good idea.
- You'll never be able to please everyone. So do what's best for you (& your family).
- Listen to others. Really, truly listen. Appreciate different opinions.
- Write down something you're grateful for every day. After a year, you'll look back and thank yourself for doing so.
- Value your time and take advantage of every minute.
- When you stop at a gas station, always get a Diet Coke & a pack of peanut M&Ms. Do not stray from this. You're welcome future self.
